First, once I get set up in whatever new house I'm going to be in, I need to get an external hard drive. I want to organize my photographs so I can access them easier. CDs can make for a huge pain in the rear, especially if I want to look for a picture I didn't save out to go in my portfolio. I sometimes look through old pictures and decide I like a previously discarded photo, then tweak it and I like it better than the one I originally chose! So, I need to get set up to do that so I can be more productive on this end.
A quick note as well - Hopefully, I can get some work done on my personal website this weekend. I need to really organize myself and get something together to showcase the stuff I've done. I DO have some nice photos, I just need to get them where they can be seen.
On to the technical.
I love contrast. I do. It is just so fun to put alot of contrast into a picture. It creates such a great mood in a piece that before, might be just a little bit blah.
This first picture was taken on River Street in Savannah, Georgia. I loved the way the tracks look against the stone, and when I shot this, I was kind of unimpressed. But later, I get back to the hotel we were staying in at the time, load it into my laptop, and converted to black and white, played with the contrast and Boom! There it was. I love this shot, even if it's not the best composition I've ever done.
This next shot was from a day I spent photographing the old dock at my family's pond. This dock has been around for a long time, and the wood was old and splintered. I spent an afternoon taking photos and I converted some to black and white - with good results. The moss and lichen on the wood really helped to make it look great in monochrome, and the shadows on the water below played in perfectly.

On an overcast day in winter at Hilton Head, I got this picture of sand after the rain had cleared out. The tracks through the still wet sand, and the water gathered in the grooves, made for an awesome texture. The sunlight off to the side lent me plenty of contrast through the photo. I always thought the sand looked like plastic here. I just loved this effect.
Contrast is so much fun in black and white. I think it holds more power when there is less color. My goal now though, is to try and make it that important in color works as well.
